Throwback Thursday. Toyota Corolla

Throwback Thursday 1966 Toyota Corolla

It's one of the Best Selling Cars of All Time

1966 Toyota Corolla

It was 1966, the British Government announced plans for the decimalization of the Pound Sterling, The Soviet space probe Venera 3 Crashed on Venus,  becoming the first spacecraft to "land" on another planets surface. Indonesia asked for peace negotiations with Malaysia and the final episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show aired. America was in Vietnam; The Battle of Long Tan and the United Farm Workers Union was formed.

It was an eventful year, but amongst all the history, a little car found it's way into the hearts of Americans.  The little 1400 cc T and 1600 cc 2T OHV car came in two trims. The Toyota Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno.

It's been 48 years, and Toyota has sold more than 40 million Corolla's and it is expected that another 300,000 of them will be sold this year.

It's come a long way...

Honda's New Media Strategy for Millenials

Honda Targets Gen Y for New 2014 Civic Si

Move over Michael Bolton, Nick Cannon's stepping in?

We all saw the Michael Bolton Honda ads around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Which makes sense, as most of Honda's age demographic falls into the 40's and 50's.  Not to mention stars endorsing auto manufacturers isn't anything new either. We have Ron Burgandy advertising for Dodge, Crocodile Dundee for Subaru back in the day and many more.

Here's where the fun comes in. Honda is completely revamping their media strategy toward Gen Y Millennials ( 1980's- early 2000's) with a 70-20-10 media strategy according to Honda News and Mediapost. 70% devoted toward building new sales and brand awareness, 20% on marketing toward new media and 10% against digital and advant garde media.

Only 21% of sales fall under the age of 35; but Honda says the Civic is the best selling car amongst that age group.  Over 300,000 were sold in 2013 and Honda is pressing harder for 2014.  Not only are they going to hit social media hard, but they have launched a campaign featuring Nick Cannon and the New Civic Si, sporting a new hashtag #Bestyourself.  So far the company has made it to 1.5 Million likes on facebook and other medias like google+twitter & instagram shortly behind.

 #BESTYOURSELF

Throw Back Thursday

The Volkswagen Thing

1/9/2014
Utah Car Cents

It was 1973,  CBS had just sold the New York Yankees to a syndicate led by George Steinbrenner for $10 million.  Aerosmith released their debut album. Elvis Presley had the first worldwide telecast that was watched by more people then the Apollo moon landing and Volkswagen released a new rear engine 4-door Cabriolet.

The Thing was purchased by NATO as a military envoy vehicle and as dune buggies in mexico. The Thing quickly grew a following amongst off-roaders and car clubs alike. So much, Volkswagen has produced a few new concepts...
